Blazing Star

Female Monarch butterfly (danaus plexipus) seen feeding on blazing star (liatris) in my front yard. I rescued the parent of this blazing star years ago from a vacant lot that was about to be cleared for development. There’s a self storage facility there now, but no sign of wild blazing stars anymore. Blazing star is an important late summer resource node for all the usual suspects; bees, butterflies, hummingbirds regularly visit. It’s easy propagate and tolerates neglect, but I have lost plants to rabbit predation.
